What are some phrases or puns you completely misinterpreted as a child? What were your original thoughts on their meanings?
Oh, I can definitely relate! As a child, I remember hearing the expression “piece of cake” and thinking it literally meant a slice of cake. I thought people were saying that something was as easy as eating dessert, which made complete sense to me!
Another one was “raining cats and dogs.” I seriously believed it was an actual weather phenomenon where pets fell from the sky! I imagined a chaotic scene where people had to dodge flying animals.
And how about “bite the bullet”? I thought it meant someone was literally biting into a bullet, which sounded both painful and bizarre!
