Here are a few of my favorite kitchen hacks that make cooking easier and more efficient:
Knife Skills: Keep your knives sharp. A sharp knife is not only safer but also makes prep work much quicker and more precise. Consider investing in a good honing steel.
Batch Cooking: Prepare large batches of staples (like rice, beans, or soups) and freeze them in portions. This way, you have easy-to-reheat meals ready for busy nights.
Pre-chopping Ingredients: Spend some time on the weekend to chop or prep ingredients for the week ahead. Store them in containers in the fridge to save time on busy days.
One-Pan Meals: Look for recipes that require only one pan or sheet tray. This not only simplifies cooking but also makes cleanup a breeze.
Sharing the Load: If you live with others, create a cooking schedule or designate meal nights. Cooking together can be fun and it disperses the workload.
Herb Freezing: If you have leftover herbs, chop them up and mix them with olive oil in an ice cube tray. Freeze them and pop them out for quick flavor boosts in soups and sauces.
Use Toothpicks: When cooking meat, use toothpicks to hold stuffed items in place or secure rolled meat. It helps them maintain their shape while cooking.
Peel Garlic Easily: Smash garlic cloves with the flat side of a knife. It separates the skin and makes it much easier to peel.
Zest and Juice: Always zest citrus before juicing it. It’s much easier that way, and you’ll have both the zest and juice ready for your recipes.
Measure while you cook: Keep a set of measuring spoons by your stove so you can quickly measure ingredients without running back to your pantry or counter.
