Drafting a truck can definitely be a double-edged sword for us truckers. On one hand, I understand that some drivers are just trying to save on gas or make their trip a bit faster, but on the other hand, it can be really dangerous.
When someone is drafting, they’re typically driving really close to my truck, which limits their visibility and reaction time. If I have to brake suddenly or maneuver to avoid something, they may not have enough time to react, leading to potential accidents. Plus, it can be pretty unnerving to have someone right on your tail, especially considering the size and weight difference between a truck and a passenger vehicle.
I’d always advise against it, not just for your safety, but for ours too. Maintaining a safe following distance is crucial for everyone on the road. So while I get the appeal, I’d much rather see drivers keeping their distance! Safety first, right?
