As an immigrant, one thing I wish native-born citizens understood is the emotional and mental toll that comes with starting over in a new country. It’s not just about finding a job or a place to live; it’s about navigating a completely different culture, language barriers, and often significant feelings of isolation.
The process can be incredibly daunting. We may struggle with the simplest things, like grocery shopping or making small talk, which can make us feel disconnected. It would mean a lot if people showed patience and understanding when we stumble through conversations or take a little longer to adjust.
