One of the dumbest things I did for someone I was romantically involved with was when I drove several hours to surprise them without telling them I was coming. When I arrived, I found out they were out of town for the weekend! It was a huge waste of time and gas, and I just ended up sitting in a coffee shop waiting for them to get back.
