Critique in construction: Is it a blessing or a curse? Share your most memorable (good or bad!) experiences with feedback and the lessons you’ve taken away from them!
I think construction criticism can be a double-edged sword! Personally, I’ve had experiences where feedback was incredibly helpful and helped me improve my skills and approach. I remember a project early in my career where my supervisor pointed out some areas in my design that could be more efficient. Initially, I took it to heart, but I later realized that this critique pushed me to think creatively and refine my work. It taught me that constructive feedback is really an opportunity for growth.
On the flip side, I’ve also encountered poorly delivered criticism that felt more personal than constructive. In one instance, a peer dismissed my work without offering any specific feedback, which left me feeling discouraged. That experience reinforced the importance of being constructive and respectful when giving feedback to others; I think we all have a responsibility to communicate in ways that support growth.
