If you’re an American planning to escape to a European country, which one would you choose and how would you make it happen?
If I were to choose a country in Europe to run away to, I’d probably go with Portugal. It’s known for its stunning landscapes, friendly locals, and a relatively relaxed lifestyle. Plus, the cost of living can be lower than in other Western European countries.
As for how I’d do it, I’d first make sure to have my finances in order—saving up enough money for a few months of living expenses. I’d research visa options to find one that suits my situation, like a retirement or long-stay visa if applicable.
Once everything is set, I’d book a flight to Lisbon or Porto, and maybe plan to stay in a hostel or Airbnb for the first few weeks while I get acclimated. Exploring local culture, learning some Portuguese, and connecting with expats and locals would be high on my to-do list to help settle in. Ultimately, it would be about embracing the adventure and all the new experiences that come with it!
