Hey everyone, I could really use some advice. My dad has some strong homophobic views and calls me names when I can’t keep up with extreme workouts. It’s also frustrating that he judges me for wanting to wear a coat because I find it visually appealing, or for not wanting to wear short sleeves, assuming it makes me a “femboy.” Any suggestions on how to talk to him about this? Thanks!

It sounds like you’re in a tough situation with your dad. First, it’s important to express that you deserve to feel comfortable in your own skin and to wear what you like without judgment. You might try talking to him calmly about how his words make you feel. Let him know that your interests and preferences don’t define your identity and that everyone has different strengths when it comes to exercise. Sometimes, parents just need a little more understanding about their kids’ choices and feelings. Maybe you can find common ground by discussing what you enjoy about your clothing choices or any other interests you have. It’s all about fostering an open dialogue where you can both express yourselves.
