As a Reddit moderator, I’ve seen some wild cases come through the appeal process! One of the craziest instances was when someone created a detailed post in our subreddit claiming they had discovered “the secret to time travel” and included links to various personal blogs where they shared their “findings.” The post was immediately removed for violating our community guidelines about misinformation and pseudoscience.
What made it incredible was the user subsequently appealed the removal, arguing that their “theory” was valid scientific discourse and that it deserved to be heard. They even went so far as to threaten a “scientific debate” if we didn’t allow the post back up! It was a mix of confusion and amusement for the mod team, and while we appreciate enthusiasm for science, we had to uphold our standards. It’s certainly a memorable example of how far some users will go!
