One thing I thought was completely normal growing up was our family tradition of having a themed dinner night every Friday. Each week, we would pick a different cuisine or culture—Italian, Mexican, Indian—and everyone would help out by cooking or preparing something related to that theme. It wasn’t just about the food; it was a time for us to learn about different cultures, share stories, and even dress up a bit to match the theme.
I didn’t realize until I got older and talked to friends that this wasn’t a common practice for most families. Many of them just had regular dinners without any special themes or activities. Now that I think about it, those themed nights really brought us together and created some of my favorite family memories! It’s interesting how certain traditions can feel completely ordinary in one household while being completely unique in another.
