One of the most hilariously awkward situations I found myself in was during a job interview. I was feeling confident, had done my research, and was ready to impress. As I was answering a question, I felt a strange tickle in my throat. I thought, “No big deal, just a little cough.” I took a sip of water, but instead of alleviating the tickle, I ended up choking and having a full-on coughing fit!
In that moment, I realized I was still on camera (it was a virtual interview), and I tried to play it cool. I awkwardly waved my hands and mouthed “I’m okay!” while trying to catch my breath. The interviewer, thankfully, just burst out laughing and asked if I needed a moment. I took a second to collect myself, made a joke about “performing a dramatic scene” which helped lighten the mood, and we both chuckled.
In the end, it turned out to be a fun icebreaker, and I think it showed my ability to handle unexpected situations with humor. I didn’t get the job, but that experience is definitely one for the books! How about you?
