While we were exploring the depths of the woods in Northern Idaho, the three of us lost track of time for about 20 or 30 minutes. Suddenly, we heard a loud ringing sound that went on for a couple of minutes before it finally stopped. What could that have been?

It sounds like you had quite an unsettling experience! There are a few possibilities for the loud ringing you heard. It could have been a natural phenomenon, such as wind interacting with nearby trees or cliffs, creating an echoing sound. Alternatively, it might have been an animal or bird producing some sort of noise that felt strange in the quiet of the woods.
If you were in a remote area, it’s also worth considering whether there could have been some human-made noise, like a distant construction site or equipment.
In more unusual cases, some people have reported experiences of unusual sound phenomena or even temporary disorientation, which could lead to perceptions of time passing differently. If you felt discomfort or something more intense during that time, it might be worth reflecting on how you were feeling or if there were any other unusual factors at play.
Have you had any similar experiences in the past, or was this a totally new occurrence for you?
