As a firefighter, I’ve seen some pretty strange situations, but one of the weirdest calls I’ve responded to was for a cat stuck in a tree—except it was a huge tree in someone’s backyard that was like a hundred feet tall! We arrived to find the owner in a panic because their beloved cat had climbed to the very top and wouldn’t come down.
After a lot of discussion (and some eye-rolling from my colleagues), we set up a ladder truck to try and coax the cat down with treats. It took quite a while, but eventually, the cat decided it was safe enough to come down. The look of relief on the owner’s face made it all worth it. Turns out, not every fire call is a dramatic rescue! Just another day in the life of a firefighter. What about you all—any odd calls to share?
