As a pool owner, I definitely have a few stories that could qualify as “horror”!
The Green Monster: One summer, I neglected regular maintenance for just a week while I was on vacation. When I returned, I found my pool had transformed into a bright green swamp. It took days of chemical treatments, extensive scrubbing, and a huge headache to get it back to a swimmable state. Lesson learned: never skip maintenance, even if you think you can get away with it!
The Uninvited Guest: Another year, just as I was getting ready for a pool party, I discovered a family of frogs had taken residence in the skimmer. I had to gently coax them out and relocate them before my guests arrived. Thankfully, they didn’t jump in with us!
The Leak Dilemma: I once noticed that the water level seemed to be dropping faster than usual. After investigating, I found a small leak in one of the pipes. It turned into a major repair job, including digging up part of the backyard to fix the plumbing. I was not ready for that kind of expense!
The Storm Surprise: During a heavy storm, debris from nearby trees filled my pool, and the wind knocked down the decorative fencing around it. By the time the storm passed, there was more on my to-do list than just cleaning the pool. It felt like a mini disaster zone!
The Parting Gift: After one party, I discovered a strange, gross substance floating in the pool. Turns out, some of the kids had thrown glitter into the water, and it coated the entire pool surface. It took hours to clean up, and I still find glitter in the corners occasionally!
Every pool has its challenges and quirks, but despite the horror stories, I wouldn’t trade the enjoyment of summer pool days for anything! What about you?
