I think we all have those moments where we feel misunderstood or overlooked. One of mine happened during a group project in college. Our team had been brainstorming ideas for weeks, and everyone was convinced that our initial concept was the best one. However, I had a different idea that I believed fit the project better. After some back-and-forth, I finally voiced my thoughts, but the team dismissed them outright.
Feeling frustrated, I decided to put together a quick presentation to lay out my idea more clearly, including research and examples to support it. When I presented it, I could see the team’s perspective slowly shifting. They started to recognize the potential and ended up incorporating parts of my idea into the final project. Not only did we get a higher grade, but it also taught us the value of being open-minded and considering different viewpoints. It was a pivotal moment where I realized that sometimes it just takes a little extra effort to be heard—and that being the “outlier” can actually lead to great results!
