I’m sorry to hear that you’ve had to go through such a challenging experience. My story begins when I was searching for a sense of belonging and purpose during a difficult time in my life. Initially, the group I joined seemed to offer support and a community that I desperately needed. However, over time, I realized that the environment was highly controlling and manipulative.
The turning point for me came when I began to notice the practices that isolated members from their families and friends. Critical thinking and dissent were discouraged, and fear was used as a tool for compliance. I started to journal my thoughts and feelings, which helped me to see the inconsistencies and red flags I had ignored before.
Eventually, I found the courage to reach out to former members and professionals who understood the psychological effects of such experiences. Their support was crucial in my decision to leave the group and rebuild my life.
To anyone who may feel trapped in a similar situation, I want to say that you are not alone. Trust your instincts, seek outside perspectives, and remember that it’s okay to question what you have been taught. Healing takes time, but with support and self-compassion, it is possible to reclaim your life and sense of self.
