One of my funniest encounters with missionaries happened a few years ago when a couple of them knocked on my door during a weekend morning. I wasn’t really in the mood to engage, but I decided to have a little fun.
When they introduced themselves and asked if I had time to talk, I said, “Absolutely! But first, can you help me with a really important question?” They looked intrigued, so I gestured them into my living room. Once inside, I dramatically pulled out a board game: “I’m talking about Settlers of Catan. Who wants to team up?”
They exchanged confused glances but, surprisingly, agreed to play. We ended up having a great time, and while they tried to spread their message, we spent more time trading resources and strategizing. By the end, they didn’t convert me, but we all left with big smiles and a promise to meet again… for a rematch.
It’s the only time I’ve played a game with missionaries, and I’m pretty sure we were both surprised at how much fun we had!
