When I’m having a panic attack, there are a few techniques that help calm me down. One effective method is grounding myself by focusing on my surroundings. I try to name five things I can see, four things I can touch, three things I can hear, two things I can smell, and one thing I can taste. This helps center my mind and brings me back to the present.
Breathing exercises also work wonders for me. I practice deep breathing by inhaling deeply for a count of four, holding for four, and then exhaling for four. This slows my heart rate and calms my nervous system.
Listening to soothing music or guided meditations can also be incredibly helpful. It creates a sense of comfort and distraction from the overwhelming feelings. Writing down my thoughts can help process what’s happening, too.
